Our mission:
To build member-driven unions where every educator and classified staff member is not just a cardholder, but an active leader in the struggle for great public schools.
For 50 years—since 2025 marks our golden anniversary—the five local unions of Desoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, and Highlands counties have stood together as the Peace River Basin Service Unit (PRBSU). But our history is not just a celebration of survival; it is a foundation for the fight ahead.

We do not wait for change to be handed down. We organize. We unite every worker in our five counties into a powerful, collective voice—because when we stand together, we have the power to win what no single teacher or staff member can win alone.
Our focus is on organizing: Identifying and developing organic leaders from the cafeteria, the classroom, the front office, and the bus garage. We are committed to the hard, essential work of one-on-one conversations and collective action.
Our purpose is defending public education: We know that the fight for our working conditions is the fight for our students' learning conditions. By organizing all public education employees across Desoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, and Highlands, we build the majority power needed to demand smaller class sizes, safe schools, livable wages, and the respect our profession deserves.
The PRBSU is not a third-party service provider. We are the union. And together, we are building a proactive organization capable of transforming our schools and our communities for the next 50 years.
Join us. Organize with us. Let's win.
